Smart city and urban security gamification: a game of exclusion?

Abstract

In the context of the smart city, gamification applied to urban security, despite promising inclusion, in practice appears to introduce performative and classificatory logics that increasingly transform urban space into a competitive arena. This paper offers a sociological and theoretical reflection on whether, to what extent, and how such gamification’s dynamics may generate social inclusion or exclusion, and with what consequences.
